A typical airbag inflator is a two-terminal device in a metal housing and is used to initiate the deployment of the bag in an automobile crash. Modern passenger restraint systems incorpo-rate a dual inflator, which allows for variable inflation rates, depending on the speed of the vehicle crash. One inflator is used to deploy the bag for low speed scenarios; the other is used for higher speed collisions.
